Small Animal Vet at Oakhill Veterinary Centre, Preston, Lancashire
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a small animal veterinary surgeon to join our proudly independent practice in Preston, Lancashire.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM THE ROLE
A diverse and rewarding role where you’ll see a great mix of both routine and emergency medical and surgical cases, meaning no two days are the same. We can tailor the role around you. There is the possibility for consult-only roles, dedicated operating days and structured development, including one-to-one surgical guidance as required and freedom to further individual interests. Within our team, we have several certificate holders and vets experienced in surgery, dermatology, ultrasonography, medicine, plus a visiting ophthalmologist.

Student Veterinary Nurse at PAWS Veterinary Centre, Nuneaton, Warwickshire
Student Veterinary Nurse Placement - Fixed Term Contract
Midshire Veterinary Group is a long established thriving independent mixed practice. We are based in the market town of Nuneaton, in the historic county of Warwickshire.
We have an experienced friendly team of Vets and RVNs, supported by front of house teams and management. We are proud to be a RCVS accredited practice and are members of XLVets. We work in a well-equipped environment including digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, TTA kit, extensive monitoring equipment and an in house lab.
Our nurses nurse! Nurse clinics are also encouraged and as a mixed practice there is the occasional opportunity to assist with farm work.
A placement opportunity has arisen for a student nurse to join our existing team on a full time basis (40 hours/week which includes paid lunch breaks) for a fixed term of 12 months starting June-July 2024.
No on call required for our student nurses but Saturday consult shifts 9:00am – 12:00pm is on a shared rota basis (approximately 1:8)

ABOUT US
We are a large veterinary practice, privately owned by 6 Directors and with over 100 permanent employees. Our main site is a Hospital which looks after smaller animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits etc…open 24 hours a day/7 days per week. It’s similar to a human hospital/gp surgery where patients come in for regular check ups and vaccinations, others are unwell and need a consultation to diagnose their condition which can lead to tests, taking bloods etc.. using our in-house laboratory. Our skilled Vet team also perform surgery, dentals, take scans etc… and for those who need to stay in to recover, we care for them till they are well enough to go home. We also see a lot of emergencies that need urgent care and attention.
As well as the hospital we have a further three branches for small animals. For the larger animals, our dedicated Farm and Equine teams service the surrounding area supported by our in-house Equine Clinic.
THE ROLE
We are looking to increase our bank of animal nursing assistants to work in our busy small animal hospital, where no two days are the same. There is a clinical role which includes animal handling, support in theatre, consultations, hospital wards, managing infection control and lots more.
ABOUT YOU
You don’t need any experience as full training is provided but to be successful, you will thrive in a fast-paced environment whilst always displaying excellent attention to detail. You will remain calm and organised, and be quick at learning new skills. Enthusiasm and a can do attitude are essential.
You will enjoy being part of a large, supportive, and friendly team and won’t shy away from sharing ideas and using your initiative. This is real opportunity not only to learn clinical skills to a high standard but also to develop your communication and problem-solving skills and learn how to collaborate in a demanding but incredibly rewarding environment.

We take pride in our role as a training practice. With our recent success in having our students qualify as Registered Veterinary Nurses, we are excited to be inviting applications for our next intake. We are seeking enthusiastic individuals to join us as Veterinary Nursing Assistants, with the opportunity to pursue their ambition of becoming qualified Veterinary Nurses.
Successful applicants will join us on a 1-year contract where you will be mentored and complete our in-house training programme, designed to give you all the knowledge and experience to work as a Nursing Assistant in a vet clinic or apply for a Veterinary Nursing college course/apprenticeship.
Upon completion of the program, we'll explore various opportunities tailored to your aspirations. These may include HNVG sponsoring your college education to obtain the Nursing qualification, continuing your role as an Assistant, or exploring alternative training pathways. Each individual’s journey is unique and we will work with you to find the path most suited to you.
The role includes assisting Vets and Nurses when in clinic and maintaining our high hygiene and infection control standards. It is a busy environment where multi-tasking, maintaining accuracy and responding to urgent requests calmly and efficiently won’t phase you. You will relish being part of a large, well-established team but also have the initiative to find things to do independently.
The ideal applicant will be flexible, diligent, a real team player and willing to get stuck in no matter what the task is. You will be able to self-motivate and use initiative to read the room and offer a helping hand. Experience with animals is preferred, and experience within a veterinary setting would be welcome; however, full training will be provided.
The Veterinary Nursing Assistant role is full-time (40 hrs/wk) and they normally work between 7am and 6pm plus a rotating twilight shift (6pm till 2am) and 1:5 Sundays. Our rotas are supplied well in advance and whilst you will be based at our Hospital predominantly, you may have some branch work too. Due to our locations, a driving license and own transport is essential.
